I’m available to write a commissioned poem for your event, project or special occasion. My past commissions include StAnza Poetry Festival, the Children’s Parliament, the British National Gallery and more. I also offer Verbatim Commissions where I use crowd sourced words or ideas and put them into a poem. This could be words generated by people who have taken part in your project, or guests at a wedding who have something special to say about the happy couple. See more some examples of what I’ve created in the Case Studies below.
Workshops and Teaching
I have led workshops in poetry and writing including performance poetry, writing, as well as reading and analysing poetry. I’ve delivered workshops for organisations including S.U.I.S.S., the British National Gallery, and various secondary schools. I have also led shared reading groups with Open Book and the Women’s Institute.
Readings and Performances
If you’re running an event, festival, or project that you think would benefit from my words – I’m there! I have given readings and performances across the U.K. as well as in America, Czechia and Belgium. Some of the places I’ve given readings for include St. Giles’ Cathedral, the British National Gallery, Scotland House Brussels, Transpoesie Festival, StAnza Poetry Festival and Edinburgh International Book Festival.
I also have experience being recorded on video and audio, including regularly contributing to BBC Radio Scotland as a reviewer, and podcast appearances.
Hosting and Chairing
I am an experienced host of events including readings, festivals, open mics, poetry slams and readings. From 2015-2017, I hosted the Edinburgh based open mic Soapbox. In 2015 I also hosted Scotland’s largest free poetry slam in the Pleasance Cabaret Bar. I currently host Push the Boat Out Festival’s Open Mic: Rock the Boat at Summerhall.
I also have experience chairing events, including interviewing authors, discussing books or poetry, and chairing panels and discussions.
Verbatim Commission: “Homefound”
“Homefound” was a digitial project I created and wrote, supported by StAnza Poetry Festival in 2020. I took crowdsourced words from people across 13 countries about what made them happy during lockdown and created a cinepoem with their words. This was then shown at StAnza Poetry Festival, Scotland (2020), Public Poetry Festival, U.S.A. (2021), and Book Arsenal, Ukraine (2021).
Verbatim Commission: Children’s Parliament
In 2022, I wrote a poem for Children’s Parliament to summarise the learning from their up their “Rights-Based Practice in the Early Years” project which worked with children to help them understand children’s rights. The poem used the words and artwork created during their consultation.
